St. Rose of Lima Bulletin Announcements for September 1, 2013

Please accept apologies from the parish web site administrator for the lack of recent updates. The St. Rose of Lima bulletins for all Sundays up to September 1 have been posted on the web site, and here are the announcements from the September 1 bulletin:

Joint Meeting of Four Parish Councils – Wed., Sep. 4, 2013: Belleville Diocese’s restructuring of parishes has the four sister parishes (i.e. Metropolis, Mound City, Cairo, and Grand Chain) in a new partnership. The leaders of the four parish councils will meet on Wednesday, Sep. 4th, at 6:30 PM, at St. Patrick Parish, Cairo, to make an outline of the STRATEGIC PASTORAL MODEL for our NEW PARTNERSHIP, assessing the situation the parishes are likely to face in 5-15 years from now. The outlines of Parish Partnerships are to be submitted to the Vicar General by Sep. 15.

Parish Office Hours: The parish office will be closed on Monday, September 2nd in celebration of Labor Day. The office will reopen on Tuesday, September 3rd at 8:00 AM.

Christian Youth Spreading the Gospel – Metropolis City: St. Rose of Lima Youth (CYO) will join the youth from other churches in Metropolis Area for a program of Christian Youth Spreading the Gospel. This is a fun event open to all 7th grade through 12th graders, a time for free fun, games, prayer, and live Christian music. The event will be hosted by the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) 420 Catherine St, Metropolis, on Sunday, Sep. 22nd, 2013. CHRIST LOVES YOU the youth.

PSR Teacher Needed: We are in need of a teacher for our Parish School of Religion (PSR) this year. Our children’s religious education is a very important part of our church since we want our church to continue growing. Please contact Marilyn Barfield if you are willing to teach. Christ loves you!

Outreach Ministry of Churches in Metropolis & Brookport, & Cairo: Thank you St. Rose Church for Monday’s participation in AT THE RIVER MINISTRY by the churches in Metropolis area, a ministry which provide a free hot meal on every last Monday of the month at 5:00 to 7:00 PM. We served 90 people. Fr. Mujule also visited OVER THE BRIDGE MINISTRY at Brookport Elementary School where the four churches provide a free hot meal to 150 needy people every Tuesday at 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The KITCHEN TABLE in Cairo serves lunch, a free hot meal, to 150 people Monday-Friday. GOD BLESS the churches.

C.O.P.E. needs 100 boxes of Saltine Crackers: This month COPE is asking for Saltine Crackers. Our goal is to collect 100 boxes. Don Harper reported that COPE served over 407 families throughout July; over 987 individuals were fed because of your generosity. The need in our community is growing each month, so please give generously as you are able. They also welcomes any extra FRESH garden produce that you may have available from your garden. Thanks!
