NO MORNING MASS – Wednesday, July 31st: There will be NO MORNING MASS on Wednesday, 8:00 AM – July 31st, 2013.

VBS 2013: Kingdom Rock VBS 2013 was a great success! Thanks to all our attendees and the caretakers who brought them. So many people donated their time, talent and resources to help the children learn to “Stand Strong for God!” We are proud to especially recognize our youth. St. Rose represented an overwhelming percentage of helpers and crew leaders.

Aug 3rd-4th – Special Collection for Reviving Catholic Church in Eastern Russia: Our four sister parishes have been asked to support this summer’s mission appeal with a special collection for reviving the Catholic Church in Eastern Russia. Your support will help revive the Catholic Church in Eastern Russia. Please give generously on Masses on August 3rd-4th, 2013.

Knights of Columbus (KoC) support for Hope Unlimited – Metropolis: KoC – Council 1055 is having a benefit to raise funds to purchase an ultrasound machine for Hope Unlimited – Wed. July 31st, from 5-10pm at El Tequila Restaurant, Metropolis. NB – 20% of all proceeds will be donated to this project. So come join us.

St. Rose of Lima Pool Party: There is a sign-up sheet in the back of church for our Annual Pool Party. It will be held on Sunday, August 4th from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Metropolis Country Club. The church will provide the hamburger, hot dogs, and drinks, and ask that the parishioners bring side items, and desserts. Please mark your calendar and make plans to attend.

Aug 15th, THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY – Holy Day of Obligation:

• Vigil Mass – August 14th – Wednesday at 6:30 PM – St. Mary Church, Mound City.
• Mass on the Feast Day – August 15th – Thursday at 6:30 PM – St. Rose of Lima Church, Metropolis. (No 8:00 AM Mass on August 15.)

At the River Ministry: If you are volunteering for “At the River” Ministry, please be sure to sign a waiver prior to the event. The next meeting will be held on Monday, August 19th at 6:00 PM, which is the week prior to the meal. We are also collecting personal hygiene items for adults & children, along with house-hold items such as toilet paper, paper towels, paper plates, kleenex, peroxide, band aids, Neosporin, hydrocortisone cream, bath towels, Bibles, blankets, laundry detergent, and dish washing liquid.

POPE FRANCIS & World Youth Day Celebrations – July 23-28th, 2013: We pray for the success of Pope Francis’s visit to the 2013 World Youth Day Celebrations in Brazil. The theme of 2013 World Youth Day is “GO AND MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL NATIONS” (Mt 28:19).

C.O.P.E. needs canned soups: This month COPE is asking for canned soups. Don Harper reported that COPE served over 400 families in July, and is anticipating August to be more. The need in our community is great, so please give generously as you are able. They also welcomes any extra FRESH garden produce that you may have available. Thanks!

Mark your Calendars: On Saturday, August 24, we will celebrate the Feast Day of St. Rose with a pot luck supper BEFORE Mass. The pot luck will begin at 4:30 PM and conclude prior to Mass at 6:30 PM. The church will provide the meat and a sign-up sheet will be placed in the back of church for side dishes and desserts.
